About us
The Oxfordshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team (Oxfordshire
DAAT) is one of 149 DAATs throughout England whose role
is to implement and co-ordinate the Governments
National Drug Strategy. The Oxfordshire DAAT covers
the whole geographical area of Oxfordshire taking in
the five District Council Areas and the Oxfordshire
Police Basic Command Unit. The Oxfordshire DAAT supports
the local areas through the commissioning and co-ordination
of local drug services.
The work of the Oxfordshire
DAAT is aligned to the new ten year drug strategy (08-18)
Oxfordshire's strategic objectives are to:
- Reduce the impact of drug misuse on local communities;
- Continue to develop innovative approaches to drug
treatment and social reintegration to ensure effective
outcomes;
- Continue to develop specialist services for young
people and support families and children whose lives
are impacted upon by substance misuse;
- Work with Partners to reduce the impact of alcohol
misuse on the individual, the family and the wider
community.'
The Oxfordshire DAAT is accountable to the Home Office
(via the Regional Government Office), The Department
of Health (via the National Treatment Agency for Substance
Misuse), and more locally to the DAAT Board. This Board
is made up of senior officials from all of the statutory
public sector agencies in Oxfordshire (health, local
government, police, probation and prisons).
Oxfordshire DAAT works closely with a number of statutory
and voluntary agencies both within the county and outside
to fulfil the Government's drug and alcohol strategies
including the County and District Councils' community
safety teams. Each District has its own action plan
detailing how they deal with local drug issues. These
plans are drawn up following extensive consultation
and audit of professionals and local residents.
